3 Perfect Summer Cocktails for Sunset on Your Patio

Nothing rings in summer quite like sitting out on your front porch or in the patio holding a refreshing cocktail with the season’s best fruits. Your favorite fruits are about to get even better as they swirl and dance in a perfect melody of spirits and garnishes. It’ll have even the strictest whiskey drinker asking for a second! We’ve found the best cocktails that can be easily adjusted to colorful, fruity drink sans the libation, so no one gets left out of the fun!

 

Watermelon Kumquat Cooler

Nothing says summer like a beautiful slice of juicy watermelon. This fruit is a celebrity amongst the summer category of fruits. This power fruit has notoriously been on seasonal menus and, of course, had to be the very first on our list. Exploring citruses, outside of lemons and limes, are becoming increasingly popular and we are here for it!

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • ½ pound watermelon, rind and seeds discarded, flesh cut in pieces
  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. Triple Sec
  • 3 tablespoons kumquat juice

Instructions:

  • In a blender, purée the watermelon pieces, then strain the purée in a very fine sieve. Discard the solids.
  • Stir in vodka, Triple Sec, and kumquat juice.
  • Pour into a glass filled with ice cubes and garnish with a watermelon slice and some kumquat slices.

 

Strawberry-mint Gin Smash

Strawberries are found year-round, but strawberries are at its finest, deep scarlet color in the summer. They are by far the most versatile to use around the clock and throughout the day. We are living for this elevated twist on the traditional gin and tonic that makes us want to bask in the sun!

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 2 ounces of gin
  • Splash of tonic water
  • 3 strawberries
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions:

  • Add strawberries, sugar, and mint to the base of your glass. Muddle well.
  • Add ice to your glass. Pour over gin and lime juice. Stir well.
  • Top with tonic water and garnish with a strawberry and sprig of mint.

 

Spicy Pink Grapefruit Paloma

Palomas are a Mexican favorite that’ll make you feel like you’re back on that summer vacation in Playa del Carmen! Pink grapefruit is one of the best citrus fruits have on hand in the summer. Not only is it rich in anti-oxidants, but it’s low in calories and keeps your immune system strong and happy!

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • Ice
  • 2 ounces 100% silver tequila
  • ¼ cup freshly squeeze grapefruit
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ cup grapefruit soda
  • 2-3 slices of jalapeños without seeds
  • 1 slice of grapefruit to garnish

Instructions:

  • Salt the rim of your glass by pouring salt into a small dish, moisten the rim of the glass, then dip the glass into the salt dish.
  • Add ice into your glass. Pour tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and stir. Pour the mixture into the glass.
  • Top with grapefruit soda and two slices of jalapenos, then stir.
  • Garnish with a slice of grapefruit and your remaining slice of jalapeno

While palomas have its similarities to margaritas, the extra kick of jalapeño will awaken you out of your siesta, while the fresh grapefruit juice keeps you and get ready to go from sunset to evening fiesta.
